l We have received your letter dated July 9,1997 in which you have informed us that your i budget did not retain the requested training funds. ' You requested continued assistance for 4
funding of training during the 1998 fiscal year.

$' As directed by the Commission, the staff has prepared criteria to make such a determination and the criteria will be presented to the Commission shortly for approval.
2 The goal is to have the criteria effective by October 1; 1997, the beginning of NRC's 1998 l fiscsl year. Upon receipt of the final criteria, you should address the criteria and submit a
! request for funding assistance. Your request will be evaluated along with the other j reauests and you will be notified of our decision at that time.
