Relay Part No. B8002DN installed in Foxboro 62H controllers in the Kewaunee and Prairie Island Nuclear Plants must be replaced by relay Part No. N0196ZN that was originally qualified for and supplied with 62H controllers.
Relay Part No. N0196ZN has been used by Foxboro for approximately 30 years with no history of failure.
Relay Part No. B8002DN is not a suitable substitute even L
though it's tominal specifications make it appear so. Only the Kewaunee and l
Prairie Island Nuclear Plants are affected.
Relay Part No. B8002DN is not used in any other plants nor is it specified in Foxboro drawings for 62H controllers.
In complying with 10 CFR Part 21.21(a)(1)(ii), Foxboro is unable to evaluate the degree of safety hazard that the above described deviation may present to l
the licensee's plant.
Relay N0196ZN is not hermetically sealed but has excellent contact corrosion resistance.
If the physical environment has a high level of contaminants and particulate matter in tha atmosphere, a film may deposit on the relay contacts and focrease contact resistance.
