2 RESPONSE TO INFORMATION REQUEST 50-277 & S0-278/94-18 Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station (PBAPS) Radioactive Material Shipping Coordinators (oersonnel responsible for authorizing shipment of radioactive waste / material) in the Radwaste Services organization, including their immediate supervision, will receive training required by NRC l&E Bulletin 79-19 ' Packaging.

Low-Level Radioactive Waste for Transport and Burial" during the first quarter of 1995, with the exception of waste burial site license requirements. Due to the closure of the three burial facilities located in the states of Nevada, Washington and South Carolina, training in this area is not applicable. If these facilities should ever happen to re-open, however, training would be reinstated to ensure compliance with new burial site criteria and license requirements. As an enhancement to the auda and surveillance function of radioactive waste / material activities, sppropriate personnel who perform this function will also be provided training to address the topics stated in NRC I&E Bulletin 79-19, with the aforementioned exception. This training will be provided by a vendor whose specialization is in the area of radioactive waste / material activities training, including those areas identified in NRC l&E Bulletin 79-19. Subsequent to the training, Radioactive Material Shipping Coordinators, appropriate supervision and resin dewatering technicians will receive a task based radwaste training program on an annual basis. This annual training program will address and include function specific training in accordance with Subpart H of 49 CFR l

172. Annual training will continue to be provided for other personnel involved in the handling, packaging and shipping of radioactive material.

The Manager-Services Training has appointed an instructor who will be responsible for providing radioactive waste / material training, including annual task based training, to the appropriate personnel. The instructor is very familiar with the subject matter due to an extensive health physics background and having previously served as a backup Radwaste training instructor. This instructor will also attend the training that is scheduled for the Radioactive i

Material Shipping Coordinators and quality assurance / audit personnel.

Additional training for the instructor will be evaluated by the PBAPS Training Department in order to maintain high quality instruction and to address any new potential training requirements.
