NRC PRAIRIE ISLAND SECURITY INSPECTION REPORTS
50-282/97013(DRS); 50-306/97013(DRS)
Dear Mr. Wadley:
On June 6,1997, the NRC completed an inspection of your physical security program at
Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant. The enclosed report presents the results of that
inspection.
Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report. Within these areas, the
inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and representative records,
observations, and interviews with personnel. The objective of the inspection effort was to
determine whether activities authorized by the license were conducted safely and in
l
accordance with NRC requirements.
No violations of NRC requirements were noted in the areas that were reviewed. Your self-
initiated performance evaluations of security activities were strong. The self-assessments
were flexible, varied and frequent. A concern was identified with your system for
evaluating alarms. This issue is considered an unresolved item pending further NRC review
of your current practice.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR),
