State Office Park South D @ ~2 A9 :35 107 Pleasant Street OFpgr y g Concord, New Hampshire 03301 00CMED89 a scay g BRANCH Attention: Mr. Richard H. Strose, Director Gentleacn, The Civil Defense budget f or the Town of Rye has been presented to, and i

conditionally accepted by the Board of Selectmen. Pursuant to RSA 107-Bs2 the budget is now presented to your of fice for action as set f orth in the statute.

The total amount of th7 budget is $20,750.00. This total is made up of two major items. An ites of $750.00 represents the customary Rye Civil Def ense budget f or maintaining energency response preparedness to deal with natural and non-nuclear, san-made disasters.

A new ites of $20,000.00 has been added for professional services related to Radiological Energency Response Plans for Seabrook Station. These funds would be expended for legal counsel to represent the Town's interests in the NRC operating license proceedings, and for independent expert consultant services to assist with formulation of recensendations for changes to the Rye RERP in order to make the level of protection acceptable to the people of the Town.

As noted above the Selectmen have approved these items on the condition that approval of the f unding f or the Seabrook-related ites is granted by the PUC before February 5, 1987. Due to Town Meeting action which prehibits expenditure of Town funds for evacination planning the Selectmen must otherwise withdraw the $20,000.00 ites prior to the f ormal Budget Cosaittee hearing which is scheduled for that date.
