Dear Mr. DeLaSarre:

Enclosed is a letter dated June 25, 1997 from the Department of Energy-New Brunswick Laboratory which requests an amendment to export license XSNM02849 to increase the quantity of material authorized for export to Japan. The uranium is to be used for calibration of analytical instruments and/or certification of analytical method reliability.

Assurances from Japan are required that the material will be subject to all of the terms and conditions of an agreement for cooperation.

Your assistance in obtaining the necessary assurances will be appreciated.
