Nuclear Regulatory Commission Document Control Desk Washington, D.-C.
20555 Gentlemen:
Special Report Limiting Condition for Operation (LCO) 3.7.9 of the Trojan Technical Specifications requires submittal of a Special Report if a 3-hour fire barrier is nonfunctional for greater than 7 days.
On December 23, 1987, it was determined that a structural separation gap (3 inches wide) exists at the interface of the turbine building switchgear room ceiling and.the turbine pedestal.
This ceiling exists at the 88 foot elevation and forms part of the fire area boundary separating fire area T8 from fire area T1 as shown in figure 3-2 of PGE-1012, "Fire Protection Plan Program Description."
l This condition was discovered while performing a detailed fire hazards analysis of the fire boundaries, and is presumed to have existed since initial construction.
The compensatory measures of Technical Specification 3.7.9 (checking local smoke detectors and establishing an hourly fire patrol) were established as required.
Modifications to restore this barrier to a functional status are expected to be completed l
by about March 1, 1988.
Sincerely, c.
l C.
