DEFUELING Defueling of the core region has been essentially conpleted. Fuel pin fragncnts and other debris were renoved from the lower grid to dllow placement of a tenplate/ guide for lower core support asscubly (LCSA)defueling.
The equivalent of one partial length assenbly remins.
't is designated as R-6 altho gh a snall portion of once nolten R-7 ruy be incorporated in it.
Defueling of the "A" and "B" hot legs was conpleted. The caterial in the hot legs war of a fine consistency and easily suspended, lhe licensee is evaluating how nuch fuel dust renstr.s in the hot legs.
Renoval of the fuel in the decay hee: drop line was attenpted with portfal success. Renoval of the rer.afning naterial in the decay heat line will have to be completed af ter LCSA defueling.
Placenant of the core drilling nachine is in progress.
It will be followed by drilling operations to begin LCSA defueling. The NRC staff is currently evaluating a series of safety evaluation reports in suoport of ICSA defueling.

ENVIRONMEllTAL fl0NITORIl[G US Environnental Protection Agency (EPA) senple analysis results shw that Till site liquid effluents are in accordance with rcgulatory linits, NRC requirurnts, and the City of Lancaster Agreenent.
TMI water effluents from the station (Units 1 and 2) discharge are analyzed by EPA. Gcma spectrun analyses of the daily conposited sanples for November 15 through December 12, 1987 showed no reactor related activity.
EPA's gauca spectrun analysis of the NRC's THI outdoor air saoples for Hovcuber 26 through Decerher 21., 1937 showed no reactor related radioactivity.

January 4,1980 Daily water sanples are taken at the City of Lancaster water works intake.
These daily senples are composited and are analyzed by the EPA weekly.
EPA's ganna spectrun analysis of composite sanples for fiovenbar 15 through Decenber 12, 1987 shr,wed no reactor related radioa :tivity.

PUBLIC I:EETIllG The next naeting of the Advisory Panel for the Decontanination of Three Mile Island Unit 2 is schtduled for Jenuary 13, 1988 frca 7:00 - 10:00 p.a. et the lloliday Inn, 23 South Second Street, liarrisburg, PA. The.
Panel will be briefed by the !!RC staff on the pending reorganization of the THI Cleanup Project Directorate.
The Panel will receive a presentation by CPull on the status of the cleanup and the status of the licensec's plans for Post Defueling Monitored Storage.
