DOCKET N05. 50-445 AND 50-446 ORIGINAL DESIGN OF CONTROL R00H CEILING SDAR: CP-86-54 (FillAL REPORT)
Gentlemen:
On October 3, 1986, we notified you by our letter logged TXX-6007, of a deficiency involving the design and installation of the control room ceiling which we deemed reportable under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e).
Specifically, we were concerned that the Main Control Room ceiling was designed and installed in such a manner that failure could impact the function of safety-related components or cause injury to operators.
This deficiency, which is unique to the control room, is attributable to inadequate design by the original design organization.
Our most recent interim report was logged TXX-6721, dated September 21, 1987.
This is our final report cn this issue and is being submitted to provide you with our engineering / construction completion schedule.
To date, the original control room ceiling has been removed and a seismically-qualified ceiling has been installed.
This new ceiling design has been validated in accordance with the CPSES Design Basis Consolidation Program (0BCP) with some minor structural modifications.
The contruction of these modifications will be completed by June 1, 1988.
Hardware commod' ties (speakers, lighting fixtures, horns) above or attached to the ceiling have been evaluated and conform to Regulatory Guide 1.29 (seismic Category Il criteria).
