q Michigan State University is in the process of decommissioning the MSU j
Triga reactor.
Formal reactor operations ceased during October,1987 i
and the facility is on a standby basis now to allow the radioactivity in the fuel to decay in anticipation of shipment of the fuel to the Department of Energy during Summer, 1988. A formal decommissicning plan will be submitted at about the same time.
In light of our desire to minimize radiation exposures during fuel l
handitog, we request that the following requirements of our license Technical Specifications be temporarily suspended:
I Section 4.3.1-d.
Requirement for a semi annual pulse.
Section 4.3.2-c.
Requirement for annual power calibration.
Since the reactor will no longer be operated, it would seem reasonable that these requirements would not be needed. All other requirements of the Technical Spe:ifications will be complied with.
This request has been reviewed pursuant to Section 6.2.d(5) of our Technical Specification by the Nuclear Reactor Safety Committee which

group supports the proposed suspension of these items.
