4 JOSEPH M; STANICHAK ATTORNEY AT LAW 700 FRANKLIN AVENUS ALIQUIPPA. PENNSYLVANIA 15001 AREA Coda 412 375 6670 February 3, 1988 United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 Attention: Mr. Thomas E. Murley, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Re:

George S. White, et. ux., et. al.

-v-Capco and/or Duquesne Light Company / Beaver Valley Reactor No. 2, Shippingport, PA

Dear Mr. Murley:

I have been informed that on Thursday, January 28, 1988, there was a secondary stage alert at the Beaver Valley Power Station.

I have information that twenty-seven municipalities were notified upon this happening.

This complaint is that Mr. and Mrs. George White, who live

~

within a stone's throw away from the epicenter of this reactor, were not notified H.

of the happening at anytime.

It is my further information that there is either an inadequate procedure or there is no procedure to report such happenings to persons living within a stone's throw of the eipcenter.

I view this as a totally inadequate disaster plan and request that you launch an immediate investigation into this area.

Please advise.

Yours truly,

-pwk h.
