problems have aricen which preclude meeting t he Conimi.a c ia n ' t., Octocer l

Theco problems involved as follows:

Final enginecring and Design drawingu cn SR\\/ line support l

C3.2 anc C3.3 as defined in the load detinition report (in.Du-210 b t )

analyses are being performeo by General Llectric Co. to vertf.y tot l
loaa cases C3.2 and C3.3 need not be tactored intc the picnt specific evaluation and the design of. moditic& tion for JAF.
Tnc Power Autnority Delieves that this analysis vili ccuan.ctrate nnLL these loads can be climinated by performing certain modiitection to the nain Eteam isolation va,1ve set points and/or logic, or t:. u balety relive valve set points.

~3-the loaus deccribec by these cases will result in a reduction ot Joads on the torus structurc as a result.of SRV blowcown.
In ore >r to expedite the installation scheuule, the engineering ano design i; proceeding with the assuicption that load casec C3. 2 ana C3. ; nect' not be factored into the JAP cecign.
If this.is not the case, adoitional design work vill have to be performed.
This stucy is not expected to be completeo until, at the earliest, May 1981.
I B.
Analyses are still under way for all piping systems attached to toe torus shell for shell motions due to pool swell, chugging, conaensation ocillation, and SRV discharge to deter.aine the loads ano acoitional piping supports.
The torus attacaca pipin i
analyses have been celayed primarily because of prooleme in l
implementing the torus / piping interaction coraputer prograc.
This computer program accountu for dynamic interaction betv.cen the tor %
and the attached piping and in essential for accurate pipe acrece calculations.
This computer program was supplied to the Mark I utilitics as part of the Bha Uwners Group generic work but it nas not functioned properly.
A vendor computer program is currently
[
available ana is being used.
Substantial aclayc; however, have wn experienceu in the analysia as a result of thir problem.
It ir expecteu that thin analysis will not be completeu until at let June 1981.
Accoro ing ly, e ng ineer i ng and design hac not advancea to a lerca suiticient to support the procurement schedule necessary to meet t:.
}
October 31, 1981 deadline.
Furthermore, cer tain equipment whica na; be regulreo (uuch as nnubbers and some pipe fittings) are lonii le m.
items (20-4 0 wechs) and as a result, uoaitications may not be completed until June 30, 1982.
Another problein relating to the attacned piping ana]ysic u the lach of plant-unique shell responne data uue to SRV blowdown.
- 1here na ta nave to be anticipaleo tron tects in othcr plants.
(It should ae notea that this approach cannot produce final analysis until a< ta trom an in-plant specific tent can be developed.
The in-plant tert cannot be performed until the "T" quenchers have been inrtallea.)
In addition to the unanticipatea oitticultier in the analytical work performea in connection with the proposed mouifications, certain economic and safety concerns militate gainnt the October 31, 1981 ceadline.
Preliminary core performance ano tuel management analysis indicatea that with current conditiont the latent that the next reiueling outage may begin is October 1,
1961.
Should thic be the caae and there are no additional difficultica with completion of the engineering effort or equipment delivery, installation of all mouit'icationn W2th the exception of externni attacheu piping supports woulu start nuortly thercuiter, unis approach also accumen that no aduitional work ic reoJirea with respect to item A above.
This work would require an outage a:
approximately 3 montbn to complete.
