SUMMARY
- The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is amending its regula-tion, " Codes and Standards," to clarify certain ambiguities to avoid misinterpretations of requirements.

i SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: In applying Section 50.55a, " Codes and Standards," of the Commission's regulations 30 CFR Part 50, " Domestic i Licensing of Production and Utilization Facilities," to current licensing actions, some confusion has resulted because of ambiguities 4

the language of Section 50.55a to clarify the ambiguities. l Since the amendments are clarifications of regulations. currently I'
in effect and do not impose a burden to anyone applying the regula-l tion, the Commission has found that good cause exists for omitting-i ,
i general notices of proposed rule making and public procedure thereon s as unnecessary.and for. making the-rule effective immediately without i .

1 Pursuant to the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, the Energy Reorganization Act of 1974, as amended, and sections 552 and l t 553 of title 5 of the United States Code, the following amendments-i to Title 10, Chapter I, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 50 are i
published as a document subject to codification. i
- 1. In S 50.55a of 10 CFR Part 50, paragraphs (g)(4)(iii) and i
(g)(4)(iv) are amended by deleting the words " tests'of pumps and j valves for assessing operational readiness" and substituting therefor the words " tests to verify operational readiness of pumps and valves whose function is required for safety"; and paragraph (g)(6)(i) is amended by deleting the words " impractical and may grant such relief" j f l
