SCE notified the NRC by telephone on December 16, 1980, that due to technical difficulties, attempts to braze sleeves within the " sludge pile" of the steam generator have been terminated until some of the difficulties are overcome. One approach being investigated by SCE is to dry the sludge pile prior to attempting to braze again. SCE plans to request a meeting with the NRC in January to discuss the status of the steam generator repair program. Since SCE had reported earlier that approximately half of the brazes would be within the depth of the sludge pile and half of the brazes would be above the sludge, the success of the repair program as presented relies on the outcome of the attempt to braze within the sludge pile, 2. Maine Yankee Atomte Power Plant Mair.e Yankee Atomic Power Company, by letter dated December 8,1980, re uested a hearing in regard to our October 24, 1980 Equipment Qualification Orier. The hearing request is addressed to the issue of whether all safety-related electrical equipment should be environmentally qualified in accorcance with the DDR Guidelines or NUREG-05SB by June 30, 1982. Maine Yankee states that this request for a' hearing will provide ample epportunity to clarify the requirements for the Order and review the safety evt.luation report scheduled for issuance on February 1,1981. 01070 Q [
