unas Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, Chairperson
. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555-0001 April 17,1997
Dear Dr. Jackson:
Please stop Louisiana Energy Services (LES) from constructing and operating a uranium enrichment facility between the low income and African American communities of Forest Grove and Center Springs, Louisiana.
The Nuclear Regu'atory Commission's Licensing Board just recently ruled that:
(1) LES has not demonstrated any genuine need for the facility; l
(2) the consortium is not financially qualified to construct and operate the proposed plant; and (3) LES failed to set aside sufficient funds to dispose of the estimated 100,000 tons of toxic radioactive waste.
i We want environmentaljustice! Uphold and support the decisions of the NRC's Licensing Board and refuse to license the LES uranium enrichment facility. - Your help with this matter is critical to breaking America's shameful partem oflocating po!!uting facilities in our low-income i
neighborhoods and communities of color.
Sincerely, utv v
