SUBJECT:
NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-155/97007(DRS)
Dear Mr. Powers:
On May 1,1997, the NRC completed an inspection at your Big Rock Point reactor facility.
The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
Areas examined during the inspection included a review of the implementation of the fire
protection program. Within these areas, we selectively examined procedures and
representative records, made observations, and conducted interviews with your personnel.
Overall, the plant staff was knowledgeable of the fire protection program and had taken
appropriate corrective actions for most self-identified issues and problems. Control of
combustibles and the material condition of fire protection equipment were good.
However, weaknesses were identified in the training area. Problems found during fire
brigade drills were not documented and the fire protection staff was not participating in
the evaluation of the fire brigade drills.
No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this inspection.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.

The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
Areas examined during the inspection included a review of the implementation of the fire
protection program. Within these areas, we selectively examined procedures and
reprecentative records, made obser ations, and conducted interviews with your personnel.
Overall, the fire protection program was rated as good. There was good communications
among the staff members responsible for performing the fire protection program.
However, a followup item was identified relating to failure to have an acceptance criteria
to determine battery failure for emergency lighting units. In addition, weaknesses were
identified for not documenting problems found during fire brigade drills and for the fire
protection staff not participating in the evaluation of the fire brigade drills.
No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this inspection.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC'-s " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
