APPLICATION AMENDMENT S-3, COMBUSTIBLE WASTE With respect to activities authorized by SNM-1097 (reference 1) at the GE fuel fabrication plant in Wilmington, N. C., General Electric Company hereby requests relief from the provisions of 10 CFR 70.58(i)(2) allowing General Electric to accumulate combustible waste in excess of the one year limit on such material, until a detailed analysis can be performed of how much of this material will be accumulated and over what period of time.
This request is being made due to an incident which occurred in our incinerator facility in January 1978 (reference 2) causing shutdown of the incinerator for a period of time until plans could be completed for reactivating the facility.
In March 1973 (reference 3), it appeared that we would attempt to reactivate the existir.g facility over a period of 18 months and predictions were made concerning how much combustible material would be accumulated until facility operation was d
reinstated.
However, safety as well as economic considerations have led us to believe that a new facility with a different incinerator design is warranted.
He plan to submit to you on or before November 15, 1978, the details related to the following:
When we expect to begin opention of a new incinerator facility.
