Fisk, Political Counsellor, Embassy of South Africa, in IP at his request to discuss the status of South African nuclear exports and overall 'uclear cooperation between the U.S. and South
' Africa. Also in attendance were flarvin Peterson, IP; Joanna Becker, ELD; and Ronald llauber, IP (for part of the meetinn).
(U) The NRC attendees reviewed for Mr. Fisk the status of pending South African export applications, all of wlich are under review by the Executive Branch, These included two applications for low enriched fuel for the French-built Koeberg reactors and a long-standing application for fuel for the SAFARI research reactor. The requirements of the 14NPA and NRC's role in the export process were also outlined for Mr. Fisk.
