O HAZARDS ANALYSIS BY THE RESEARCH AND PGTER PIACTOR SAFETY BRANCH DIVISIONOFLIbENSINGANDREGULATION g vi IN THE MATTER OF .ii)

YANKEE ATOMIC ELECTRIC COMPANY PR10 SED CHANGE NO.1 DOCKET NO. 50-29 Pursuant to the provision of paragraph 3A of License No. DPR-3, as D amended, Yankee Atomic Electric Company, in Proposed Change No.1, dated February 10, 1961, requested authorization to make a modifi-cation-in facility design. The' modification consists of the addition of a motor operating mechanism to valve No. 26, the demineralized water fill line valve, and the installation of related switches and indicating lights on the main control board.

The valve is presently operated manually by the nuclear auxiliary operator under orders transmitted to him over an intercom system by the control room' operator. Ths motor operating mechanism would ,

improve the control of boron dilution operations by providing the '

control room operator with direct control over the position of the

/ valve. i:.1 .

i Upon review of the proposed modification, we have concluded that it , j should contribute to safer operation of the facility, although only ;J to a minor extent, and that it does not present significant hazards .

H considerations not described or implicit in the license application, as amended to January 12, 1961 We have further concluded that there is reasonable assurance that the health and safety of the public will not be endangered by operation of the facility as proposed.
