Tiernan (BG&E), dated February 24, 1988, Request for Additional Information Generic Letter 86-06 Gentlemen:

Baltimore Gas and Electric (BG&E) is requesting an extension to the time allotted for the subject request for additional information (Reference a).

We request that the response time be extended by 90 days beyond that allowed in your letter for the reasons given below.

This extension request applies to the first three items listed in Reference (a).

We intend to provide the report that was requested (item 4) within the original schedule.

During the November 30, 1987 teleconference with BG&E, NRC and EG&G Idaho, several areas were identified which EG&G felt lacked sufficient information to be properly evaluated.

We understood that a request for additional information would be forthcoming which would clarify these items; therefore, we did not pursue any additional work for these questions until the request was received.

Upon review of the request, the first three items will require more time than has been allotted to be answered fully.

The first question will be addressed by the I&C Design Engineering Unit.

They are providing engineering support for our current outage as well as the upcoming Unit 1 refueling outage.

The back-to-back outages are absorbing most of their resources and they need more f g 8803240435 880321 PDR ADOCK 05000317 P

will be resolved by the Analytical Support Unit.

There are only two individuals capable of expeditiously resolving these concerns and they are currently involved in other high priority licensing and outage related support work.

Therefore, we are requesting an extension on Questions 1-3 from April 24, 1988 to July 23, 1988.

Should you have any questions regarding this matter, we will be pleased to discuss them with you.

Very truly yours, b
