NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Washington, D.C.
20555 Gentlemen:
DOCKET NOS. 50-266 AND 50-301 METEOROLOGICAL MONITORING SYSTEM SOFTWARE POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 Our letter of November 30, 1987, discussed changes we were implementing regarding the meteorological and dose assessment software in use at our Point Beach Nuclear Plant.
In that letter, we committed to installing an abbreviated version of our meteoro-logical and dose assessment (MAD) program, to be called MADCR, on the plant process computer system.
MADCR is capable of using real-time meteorology and real-time radiological monitoring system data by user selection.
This letter is to advise you that MADCR has been installed and is available to the control room staff at our Point Beach Nuclear Plant.
We had also committed to developing a subroutine to recognize the occurrence of the lake breeze phenomena and to conservatively account for potential increased release concentrations due to trapping.
We had committed to implement this refinement by December 1988.
However, we have been able to include this sub-routine in the MADCR program which was installed in February.
We are continuing to work on incorporating the subroutine into the PC-based MAD program used in our EOF.
We expect this action to be completed by August 1, 1988.
As further committed in our November 30 letter, we have provided for the direct display of meteorological data in the EOF.
This action was also completed in February.
