SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-344/97-02; 72-17/97-02

Dear Mr. Quennoz:

An NRC inspection was conducted April 14-17,1997, at your Trojan Nuclear Plant. The

enclosed report presents the scope and results of that inspection.

The primary purpose of the inspection was to observe the fuel building crane load tests and

to review records associated with the crane. in addition to the crane load test activities,

the inspection reviewed the site training program, condition of the spent fuel pool, status of

activities related to the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation, and health physics

activities related to the decommissioning work underway,

in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter

and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
