Dear Mr. Grier:
NRC INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-311/78-26 SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION NO. 2 UNIT SALEM NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION Pursuant to our letter of October 18,1978 in response to the sub-ject inspection report, we wish to advise your office of the fol-lowing supplemental information:
As a result of a question raised by J.
Durr, Reactor Inspector, of your staff regarding the slope of one (1) of the reworked fil-let welds, the UE&C Quality Control Department was directed to perform a re-inspection of all 171 reworked field welds.
This re-inspection revealed that seventy-eight (78) welds still failed to meet the 2x1 leg size requirement given on the applic-able drawing detail.
Examination of the subject welds indicated that both legs were " built up" during the course of rework.
All responsible personnel were given explicit instructions on the drawing detail to preclude recurrence.
Seventy-five (75) of the subject welds were satisfactorily re-worked and accepted.
The remaining three (3) welds have been appropriately identified and will be completed subsequent to Hot Functional Testing.
Full compliance will be achieved prior to Core Load.
