GENERIC ISSUE MANAGEMENT CONTROL SYSTEM -

i FIRST QUARTER FY-97 UPDATE 1

Attached is the First Quarter FY-97 (up to December 31,1996) update of the Generic Issue Management Control System (GIMCS) for your information. No issues were prioritized or resolved during the reporting period. Seven issues remain to be prioritized (see Table 7), three issues remain to be t

reprioritized (see Table 8), and seventeen GSIs remain to be resolved, including two that are scheduled for resolution in the Second Quarter of FY-97 (See Table 4A). Adequate resources are available for the completion of the actions delineated in the schedules in this report. GSIs that are undergoing management review include the resolution of B-61, " Allowable ECCS Equipment Outage Periods," and the prioritization of 163, " Multiple Steam Generator Tube Leakage."

In response to the Commission request in SRM951219A that the staff use "Eng g

aaency-wide ceneric issue resolution trackina system," GIMCS has been expanded 4

Q to track ongoing work on:

(a) previously resolved GSIs (see Table 12); and (b) related generic activities (see Table 13).

I will continue to keep you 1

informed of progress in resolving the issues as well as any major problems that might surface during the course of their resolution.
