NRC STAFF MOTION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME TO FILE RESPONSE TO LILCO'S MOTION FOR

SUMMARY

DISPOSITinN OF HOSPITAL EVACUATION ISSUE The NRC Staff hereby moves for a four-day extension of time to respond to LILCO's Motion for Summary Disposition of the Hospital Evacuation issue, which was filed by express mall on December 18, 1987.

At the present time, the Staff intends to include with its response an affidavit from its traffic expert, Dr. Thomas Urbanik, regarding the evacuation time estimates.

However, Dr. Urbanik's place of work, Texas A& M University, was on holiday recess from December 19, 1987 until January 4, 1988, and the Staff was not able to provide him with a copy of the motion, nor to discuss it with him, during that time. As a result, it will not be possible to prepare the affidavit in time to meet the filing date for responses of January 11, 1987.

Dr. Urbanik's views regarding the hospital evacuation time estimates should provide the Board with a more complete record on which to base its decision.

It should be noted that he has previously testified on behalf of the Staff in this proceeding on that subject. See t.BP-85-12, 21 NRC 644, 782 (1985).

Therefore the Staff requests that the Board extend the filing date for responses to Appilcant's Motion for Summary Disposition of the Hospital Evacuation issue from January 11 to January 15, 1988.
