ORDER On January 7, 1988, the Attorney General of Massachusetts filed a motion for directed certification of certain November 16 and 18, 1987 rulings of the Licensing Board in the offsite emergency planning phase of this operating license proceeding.
The certificate of service that accompanied the motion reflects that counsel for the applicants in Boston (the same city in which the Attorney General is located) were served on January 7 through the use of an expedited delivery service.
The same mode of service was not employed, however, in the capo of counsel for the NRC staff, who is located in the Washington, D.C.
metropolitan area.
Instead, according to the certificate of service, a copy was sent to him, by ordinary first class mail, on January 8.

Thus, the responses of the applicants and the staff to the directed certification motion are currently due on January 19 and 28, 1988, respectively.1 In the interest of expediting our disposition of the motion, however, we are directing that the staff's response be filed on or before January 25, 1988.2 It is so ORDERED.
