Dear Mr. Murley:
In the reference (a), Commonwealth Edison identified certain construction activities, related to the Braidwood Unit 2 Fire Protection Program in Safety-Related areas, that were not expected to be completed by Fuel Loading. This remaining construction work included structural steel fireproofing, penetration fire seals, and cable tray fire wrap. Reference (b) provided an update of the status of these remaining construction activities.
This letter provides another update on the status of completion of this remaining construction work.
Attachment A, previously sut1nitted with both references (a) and (b),
and attached to tMs letter, has again been updated to show the current status of the structural steel fire proofing. The "Percent Complete" column has been revised to show the progress made to date. Two areas scheduled for completion in mid-January 1988 have been slightly delayed due to emphasis on Unit 1 outage work. However, this will not affect overall completion of Unit 2 fire proofing efforts. All areas are expected to be completed by February 29, 1988, except for the 1.ower Cable Spreading Room (LCSR), which is expected to be coms.leted by March 30, 1988.
Referente (a) had identified that forty-eight (48) penetration fire i
seals were not expected to be completed by Fuel Loading. Reference (b) revised this number of incomplete seals to seven (7). These remaining seals were completed by January 1, 1988, as scheduled.
F
T.E. Murley Jrnutry 13, 1988 Finally, Attachment B to reference (b) provided a detailed h scription of Cable Tray and Conduit Fire Wrap work remaining to be completed. Attachment B has been updated and enclosed with this letter to provide the current status.
This work had been proceeding more slowly than initially anticipated due to lower than expected productivity in congested areas. Hcnever, Commonwealth Edison and the fire wrap installation contractor have taken steps, including an increase in the work force size and the use of overtime, to assure completion of this work by the originally scheduled date.
This work is still expected to be completed by February 29, 1988.
As previously described in reference (a), compensatory measures are being taken to assure a continued adequate level of fire safety.
Please direct any questions regarding this matter to this office.
Very truly yours,
(.
