This refers to the telephone conversation between you and Mr. Ralph 0. Wollan of your staff and Mr. A.-Bert Davis of my staff on December 5, 1978, regarding evaluations of inte.rnal exposures to personnel at the University and the conttol over airborne radioactivity and intakes of radio-active material.

Wich regard to the matters discussed, we understand that you have undertaken or will undertake the following actions:

1.

For all users under your license institute measures to ensure:

Airborne monitoring of all locations at which air-a.

- borne Iodine-125 or Iodine-131 is likely to occur.

b.

Bioassay monitoring of all individuals who work with or are exposed to Iodine-125 or Iodine-131 at a frequency to assure meeting the 40 hour4.62963e-4 days <br />0.0111 hours <br />6.613757e-5 weeks <br />1.522e-5 months <br /> control measure (10 CFR 20.103(b)(2))_ and the 40 hour4.62963e-4 days <br />0.0111 hours <br />6.613757e-5 weeks <br />1.522e-5 months <br /> per week for 13 weeks concentration limit (10 CFR 20.103(a)(1)).

Institute measures to ensure that all procedures relevant to users of radiciodiae are implemented, in particular, your " Rules For Radioactivity Users" which prohibit pipetting by mouth, eating or smoking in the radioisotopes laboratory, and using radioisotapes which may possibly become airborne outside of a hood.
