Dear Sir:
Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMT-1)
Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 In Met-Ed's letter of April 8,1976 (Gol 0506), specifically in response to Question le of a set of questions from an NRC letter of March 29, 1976, con-cerning Cycle 2 Reload, Met-Ed committed to verifying core flow rate within 3 months following refueling and every 6 months + 30 days thereafter.
The purpose was to ensure that the core flow rate at 100% power remained above 106.5% of the design flow rate so that the analysis resulting in the pover/
flow trip and/or overpressure trip setpoints remained conservative.
The flow rate reported for Cycle 1 in GQL 0506 was approximately 1095.
Since that initial cccmitment, the core flow rate has been measured 9 times, varying between 109.5% and 111.1% o" Cycle 1 design flow.
A summary table is presented below.
Test Date
% of Cycle 1 Desien P_ov 6-15-76 110.hl 11-5-76 110.65 2-9-77 111.11 5-21-77 109.73 7-29-77 110.26 10-25-77 109.89 l-29-78 109.51 5-8-78 110.55 7-26-78 110.68 In view of the above results, Met-Ed proposes to change the frequency of flow verification tests to once per cycle, within 90 days of resumption of
