SUBJECT:

TRANSFER OF ADDITIONAL UMTRAP WORK TO URF0:

FALLS CITY, TEXAS, MEXICAN HAT, UTAH AND MONUMENT VALLEY, ARIZONA l

Following discussions between members of our re:pective staffs on resources needed to review the subject proposed remedial actions I have decided to transfer these cases to your office. The decision is based on the following i

l considerations:

o The present DOE schedule for incoming work has slipped, so that some of the envisioned incoming work has been postponed to FY-87.

It is my l

understanding that the subject casework would now fit into your previously planned FY-86 UMTRAP related work effort.

o If the casework remained with NMSS until the end of FY.86, as was planned, it would result in NMSS review of draft documentation and URF0 i

review of final documentation.

In order to maintain consistency of review throughout, case life, it is appropriate to transfer this casework at this time.

l The Mexican Hat and Monument Valley submittals are expected to be mailed by DOE on March 5,1986. Please inform 00E in writing to expedite the submittal of necessary documentation directly to URF0 and to notify them that this additional transfer has occurred.

This transfer follows the same ground rules as established previously in the October 1, 1985 transfer of all but seven of the UMTRAP site cases.

As in all other UMTRAP cases, reviews should be perfonned according to guidance l

established in the Standard Review Plan for UMTRCA Title I Mill Tallings Remedial Action Plans (October 1985).
