Vogtle Electric Generating Plant - Unit 1, 50-424, NRC Report No. 50-424/85-35 Attention: Mr. J. Nelson Grace Inspection Report 424/85-35 addressed concerns regarding Readiness Review documentation of the review of drawings, specifications, and vendor documents in Module 4. Our letter GN-801, dated February 7, 1986, responded to these concerns, advising that, while documentation of the review was not detailed, the review was performed by experienced engineers utilizing generic checklists as guidelines, and the results of the review and conclusions of Module 4 were valid. In order to provide further assurance of the adequacy of the Module 4 review, we have performed a reassessment of a sample of the documents initially reviewed in Module 4. The results of this reassessment were documented in detail. There were no discrepancies identified as a result of the reassessment. The reassessment validated the adequacy of the initial review and the conclusion reached in that review, that the design program for mechanical equipment and piping is adequate. Reassessment documentation is available for the NRCs review in the Readiness Review files at the site.

In addition to the above, NRC Inspection Report 424/05-35 indicated a concern twgarding the Readiness Review assessment of commitment implementation. In order to provide assurance of the adequacy of the assessment, we have performed a cereview of the Module 4 commitment implementation matrix.

Mr. J. Nelson Grace i March 2, 1986 Page 2 of 2 The Module 4 commitment matrix contained 262 commitments of which all were reviewed to verify accuracy. The results of.this review identified 10 commitments that were not adequately verified by the information in the implementation matrix (5 of which were previously identified by the NRC). Additionally, six commitments were found to have editorial errors and 6 ,

commitments were determined to have been inappropriately assigned as commitments to Module 4 and will be removed.

Of the 10 errors and 6 editorial changes, all were reverified during this review and determined to be properly implemented in project documents. Attached is a listing of each discrepancy and its final disposition.

A revised commitment and implementation matrix will be provided with these changes by March 30, 1986.

As a result of this review Readiness Review concludes that the commitments for Module 4 have been adequately addressed in the implementation matrix, and the programmatic review of drawings, specifications, and vendor documents was adequate.

This response contains no proprietary information and may be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
