Dear Mr. MacDonald:
This letter requests variance to return to the conditions of C of C 6601 Revision 20 for the CNSI Model 8-120 shipping cask for a period not to exceed March 15,1986. The cask was downgraded this month to an NRC Type A package per CNSI request. The date of the downgrade has impacted shipments that were already commited.
I spoke to Mr. Odegaarden of your staff regarding this request.
A variance is requested as soon as possible as some packages exist that were ready for transport.
Please let us know if we can provide further information or answer any questions. A check for $150 has been enclosed per 10 CFR Part 170 as an application fee.
