INSPECTION NO. 70-7001/97-204 l

Dear Mr. Miller:

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted a routine inspection of your Paducah, Kentucky uranium enrichment facility's material control and accounting (MC&A) safeguards program on April 28 through May 2,1997. The inspection focused on the core procedures which the NRC considers critical to implementing your Fundamental Nuclear ,

Material Control Plan commitments. The scope, details and results of the inspection are  !

contained in the enclosure.

At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed with members of your staff. Within the scope of the inspection, no violations were identified. However, seven inspector follow-up items (IFis) were identified. The NRC expects to resolve these IFis during a future inspection.

As requested by the United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC) and granted by the NRC, reports containing information related to USEC's MC&A programs are exempt from public disclosure. Accordingly, the enclosure will not be placed in the Public Document Room.

Should you have any questions concerning this report, please contact D.L. Whaley at  !
