CLOSEOUT OF TAC NO. M85776 REVIEW OF BOILING WATER REACTOR OWNERS GROUP LICENSING TOPICAL REPORT NEDC 32160P, "CAllBRATION INTERVAL EXTENSION," DATED DECEMBER 1992

By letter dated June 13,1996, the staff issued a status report on the review of the Boiling Water Reactor Owners Group (BWROG) Topical Report NEDC 32160P, " Calibration Interval Extension," dated December 1992. The staff concluded that the extended surveillance intervals proposed in Topical Report NEDC 32160P were inadequately justified by the topical report evaluations and the additional data and analyses provided in the BWROG response': to the staff's request for additional information.
During management meetings between the NRC and BWROG held on July 10,1996 and October 23,1996, the BWROG discussed the status of the topical report and indicated that it wmid meet with the NRC technical staff to discuss the open items described in the staff's status report. Four months later, by letter dated February 24,1997, the staff advised the BWROG that, unless it heard from the BWROG within 30 days, it would terminate its review of NEDC 32160P. Thai BWROG responded by requesting a meeting and on March 5,1997, the staff issued a notice of a meeting to be held in Rockville, Maryland on March 28,1997. However, this meeting was cancelled and, to date, the BWROG has not arranged to reschedule the meeting with the NRC or to otherwise indicate a desire to actively pursue closure of the identified open issues. Therefore, the staff has terminated its review of NEDC 32160P and closed TAC No. M85776 on the assumption that review of this topical report is no longer being pursued.
