Dear Mr. Muller:

o This letter proposes a schedule for a submittal to the NRC describing the scope and specific inspection criteria applicable to the planned Peach Bottom Unit 3 mid-cycle examination of cer tain safe ends and pipe welds.

The examination is scheduled in accordance with the commitment described in the November 27, 1985 referenced letter.

Philadelphia Electric Company proposes to submit, within 90 days of returning Unit 3 to service, the plans for the mid-cycle examinations for NRC review and concurrence.

The proposed submittal will be based on the sugges tions provided by the NRC during a_ December 19, 1985 meeting in Bethesda, Maryland.

The submittal will identif y the welds to be examined, the examination l

acceptance criteria for continued operation without further evaluation or repairs, and the time schedule for data submittal to the NRC.
