On May 28,1997, Southern Nuclear Operating Company submitted a letter regarding the design basis for tornado-generated missiles at Farley Nuclear Plant. The enclosure to the letter included ten attachments. Attachment 3 is a copy of B-TOP-3, " Design Criteria for Nuclear Power Plants Against Tornadoes," dated March 12, 1970. This document was originally issued as a proprietary document; however, Bechtel confirmed by letter to Southern Nuclear dated July 1,1997 that B-TOP-3 may be released for NRC review as a i
non-proprietary document. The confirmation letter from Bechtel is attached.

Ajluni, SNC, by E-mail dated June 24, 1997, we have reviewed B-TOP-3, " Design Criteria for Nuclear Power Plants Against Tornadoes," dated March 12, 1970 and have determined that this document does not contain any proprietary information.
Subsequent Bechtel Civil Topical Reports, which are non-proprietary, contain similar design criteria information as conveyed in B-TOP-3 and were previously reviewed and accepted by the Atomic Energy Commission.
Therefore, B-TOP-3 may be released for NRC review as a non-proprietary document.
