Dear Mr. Fairtile:
Subject:
LICENSE TERMINATION PLAN FOR YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER STATION
-In accordance with 10 CFR 50.82(a), Yankee Atomic Electric Company (YAEC) hereby submits the License Termination Plan for the Yankee Nuclear Power Station (YNPS). Upon approval by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), this Plan will be made a supplement to the Final Safety Analysis Report.
YAEC's intent is to complete the decommissioning of YNPS by safely and efficiently returning the site to a condition which permits release of the site for unrestricted use and termination of the 10 CFR Part 50 License. The License Termination Plan describes how decommissioning will be completed and the site restored to a " green field" condition in three phases. The License Termination Plan also includes a Final Status Survey Plan which presents the site release criteria.
The NRC is expected to issue a final rule on Radiological Criteria for License Termination in the near future. At that time, YAEC may re-evaluate the release criteria contained in the License Termination Plan. Following approval of the License Termination Plan, any changes to the release criteria will be subject to NRC approval.
Per your instruction (Reference (b)), this submittal presents nine (9) copies of the License Termination Plan for the NRC's use. Please contact us if additional copies are required. If changes are made to the License Termination Plan as part of the NRC's review or YAEC's
- activities, an instruction sheet and one-for-one replacement pages will be submitted to the NRC for incorporation.
We request that the review and approval of the YNPS License Termination Plan be completed by the NRC within nine months of the date of this submittal. We are prepared to support the Staffs 20nitu 80[l 9705210388 970515 ll1M1881M gamines PDR ADOCK 05000029 IllNIWilm 5 E l1' 5 W
