F APR 2 1986 Robert W. Barber, Director Office of Nuclear Safety EH-33 U.S. Department of Energy Washington, D.C.

Dear Mr. Barber:
This letter is to provide you with follow on information to discussions between members of our staffs regarding an emergency response workshop on May 6-7, 1986, in Arlington, Texas. The workshop is being sponsored by the Region IV office of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
The purpose of this workshop is to bring together representatives of the Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the NRC with Region IV nuclear power plant licensees and representatives of the states in our region.in which nuclear power plants are operating or are being built. We are including representatives of states that are in the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone of plants in NRC Region IV.
The workshop will focus on the concept of response to reactor emergencies and the interactions among emergency response organizations necessary to integrate emergency response efforts.
There will be discussions of topics of current interest related to emergency response.
We appreciate your commitment to support the workshop by providing an appropriate representative of your office to make a presentation outlining the roles and responsibilities of your agency and to serve as a panel member for a panel discussion that will focus on Federal Agency / State / Licensee interfaces during emergency response activities and arranging for contractor staff to make a presentation on the Aerial Measuring System. We anticipate that the presentation on the Aerial Measuring System, using the recent case history of DOF's suppnrt during the accidental release of UF from the Sequoyah Fuels g
Facility, to be both timely and an excellent example of DOE's assistance and support available to the NRC, State, and Licensees.
We will.have graphic equipment to accommodate either 2x2 slides or overhead viewgraphs.
If your representatives will provide us with a copy of any handouts to be used in their presentations, we will be happy to reproduce them.
The workshop will be held at the Arlington Rodeway Inn, 833 North Watson (State Highway 360).
It is tentatively scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on May 6, and end late afternoon on May 7.
We are enclosing room reservation request cards for making advance reservations by mail.
You also may make your reservations by telephone at (817)640-7080.
A special room rate of $35 per night, single or double, has been arranged for workshop attendees.
