Enclosed for your information is a copy of export license application XB001296, dated May 20, 1997, from U.S. Department of Energy requesting authority to export 1.684 microcuries of Polonium-209 to the UN Development Programme, Managua, Nicaragua for scientific analysis.

A specific license is required because the general license in 10 CFR Part 110.23(a)(2) is limited to Po-209 contained in a device, or a source for use in a device. The application does not require Executive Branch review or assurances from the receiving government, we are prepared to issue the requested license after the application has been on file in the NRC's public document room for 15 days.

I will forward a copy of the license to you after it is issued.
