SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-285/9710 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION

Dear Mr. Gambhir.
An NRC inspection was conducted May 4 through June 14,1997, at your Fort Calhoun
Station reactor facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that
-
inspection.
During the 6-week period covered by this inspection period, your conduct of activities at
the Fort Calhoun Station was generally characterized by safety-conscious operations,
l
sound engineering and maintenance practices, and careful radiological work controls. One
l
violation of NRC requirements was identified regarding a failure to install a flinger ring on a
component cooling water pump. The NRC has concluded that information regarding the
i
reason for the violation and the corrective actions taken are a! ready adequately addressed
in the subject report. Therefore, you are not required to respond to this violation unless
the description provided does not accurately reflect your corrective actions or your
j
. position. In that case, or if you choose to provide additional inforrnation, you should follow
the instructions specified in the enclosed notice.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter,
its enclosures, and your response if you choose to provide one will be placed in the NRC
Public Document Room (PDR). To the extent possible, your response should not include
any personal privacy, proprietary, or safeguards information so that it can be placed in the
'
PDR without redaction.
