Dear Mr. Schumacker:

I'm responding to your letter dated May 24,1997. We are encouraged that individuals like yourself are also concerned with the safe use of radioactive material. The violations you reference regarding Dr. Roy Sadovsky were as a result of Dr. Sadovsky having used byproduct material at a site that was not specified in his material's license and that he failed to perform proper safety measures such as providing personnel monitoring and following proper transportation procedure. Dr. Sadovsky's deliberate failure to comply with license requirements j

l jeopardized the public's health and safety and prompted the NRC to take enforcement action.

Please be assured that we have taken the issues raised in your letter into consideration.

j Sincerely, 1
