NRC INSPECTION REPORT 70-7002/97-204 l

Dear Mr. Miller:

I l This refers to the chemical process safety inspection conducted from .May 5 -23,1997, at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant. The purpose of the inspection was to determine ,

the effectiveness of the facility's chemical process safety program. At the conclusion of I the inspection, the findings were discussed with Mr. Jim Morgan, Enrichment Plant Manager, and other senior members of plant management.

I Areas reviewed during the inspection are identified in the enclosed report. Within these l areas, the inspection consisted of facility walk through, selective examinations of  !

l procedures and records, interviews with personnel, and observations. Based on the results i j of this inspection, no violations of NRC requirements were identified. )

At the exit meeting, the inspectors identified several areas where additional information will be provided to the NRC and these items will be tracked as inspector followup items and are  ;

discussed specifically in the report.  !
