UF, RECERTIFICATION FACILITY

Dear Mr. Maas:

This is in reference to your letter dated April 24,1997, requesting permission to begin construction of a UF, cylinder recertification facility. We have completed the initial review of your submittal, and based on your description of the project, it appears that it is categorically excluded pursuant to 10 CFR 51.22 (c)(11). Therefore, it is not necessary to obtain NRC permission to begin construction of the facility, according to 10 CFR 70.23(a)(7).

Your letter indicated that in the next few months you will submit an application to amend your license to add the recertification facility as a location of an authorized activity. Please note that the determination that the project n.cets the requirements for a categorical exclusion will change if the information submitted with your application indicates that significant environmental impacts are expected.
