This refers to the inspections conducted by Mr. R. H. Lasky of this office on January 6-7 and February 3-4, 1986, of your facility at Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, and to the discussions of our findings with members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspections.
The purpose of this inspection was to perform a technical evaluation of your equipment qualification test activities for safety-related equipment and to witness equipment qualification testing being performed on Rockbestos cable for the Tennessee Valley Authority. Areas examined during the inspection and our findings are discussed in the enclosed report. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of an examination of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspectors.
Within the scope of this inspection, we found no instance where you failed to meet NRC requirements although clarification of the design basis accident simulation procedure for Rockbestos cable was discussed and appropriate revisions made before completion of the inspection.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Comission's regulations, a copy of this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
