Dr. Shirley, Ann Jackson, Chairperson Nuclear Regulatory Commission l
Washington, DC 20555-0001 1
April 17,1997
Dear Dr. Jackson:
i Please stop Louisiana Ener'gy Services (LES) from constmeting and operating a uranium enrichmc ut fa'cilityhtween the low income and A&ican American communities of l
Forest Orove and Center Springs; Louisiana.
I The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Licensing Board just recently ruled that:
i
_ 1) LES has not demonstrated any genuine need for the facility; f
(
(2) the consortium is not financially qualified to construct and operate the proposed plant; and
]
(3) LES failed to set aside sufficient funds to dispose of the estimated 100,000 tons of toxic j
radioactive ce-We want environmentaljustice! Uphold and support the decisions of the NRC's Licensing Board and refuse to license the LES uranium enrichment facility. Your help with this matter is critical to breaking America's shameful pattern of locating po!!uting facilities in our low-income neighborhoods and communities of color.
]
i Sincerely.
