NRC INSPECTION REPORT NO. 070-1100/97-01 l
Dear Mr. Conant:
This letter refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. James Kottan of this office on April 14-17,1997, of activities authorized by NRC License No. SNM-1067 at the ABB Combustion Engineering Facility, Windsor, Connecticut, and to the discussions of our findings held by Mr. Kottan with yourself and other members of the ABB Combustion Engineering staff.
During this inspection an NRC confirmatory survey of Building 21 was conducted. This survey consisted of measurements for fixed contamination, measurements for removable contamination, and direct radiation measurements. The measurements were made both inside the building and outside of the building. Additionally, soil samples were taken around the perimeter of the building. Staff from the State of Connecticut, Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Air Management, Air Monitoring and Radiation Division also accompanied the NRC inspector during part of this inspection.
Within the scope of this inspection, we noted that no radioactive contamination or radiation levels above background were measured. These results confirm that you meet the NRC criteria for release of Building 21 for unrestricted use. These results also confirm your Building 21 survey results as documented in your report, Building 21 Final Status Survey Report. No violations of regulatory requirements were observed and no response to this letter is n auired.
