Nelson Grace SPR 85-006 June 18, 1985 EVENT DESCRIPTION During the course of a re-evaluation of South Carolina Electric and Gas Company's (SCE&G) compliance with 10CFR50 Appendix R,
" Fire Protection Program for Nuclear Power Facilities Operating Prior to January 1,
1979," it was identified that an "A" d ivis io n vital power system tray was not separated from "B" d iv is ion trays containing cables for redundant func t ion s.
Appendix R requires one redundant train to be wrapped in a one hour fire barrier where separation is less than twenty feet with fire detection and automatic fire suppression in the area.
A fire which cou ld damage these "A"
and "B"
d ivis ion trays wou ld compromise or p r e c lu d e the use of redundant systems and equipment necessary for operation and safe shutdown.
CORRECTIVE ACTION A one-hour roving fire watch was e s t ab lis hed for the area.
The feas ibility of wrapping the "A"
division tray inv o lv e d is being eva lu a t ed.
Modifications to meet Appendix R requirements will be completed by March 31, 1986.
