Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, Chairperson l-NuclearRegulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555-0001 -
April 17,1997 9
Dear Dr. Jackson:
Please stop Louisiana Energy Services (LES) from constructing and operating a uranium enrichment facility between the low income and African American communities of Forest Grove and Center Springs, Louisiana.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Licensing Board just recently ruled that:
l.
(1) LES has act demonstrated any genuine need fo-the facility; (2) the consortium is not financially qualified to construct and operate the proposed plant; and (3) LES failed to set aside sufYicient funds to dispose of the estimated 100,000 tons of toxic radicad e waste.
_ e want environmentaljustice! Uphold and support the decisions of the NRC's Licensing Boa W
an'd refuse to ucense me LES uranium emichment facility. Your help with this matter is critical to breaking America's shameful pattern oflocating polluting facilities in our low-income neighborhoods and communities of color.
- Sincerely,
-T~L.
