Dear Sir:

This communication is in response to your letter dated November 13, 1984 regarding the routine safety inspection conducted at The Ohio State University Nuclear Reactor Laboratory (Docket No. 50-150).

It is our understanding that we must reply to two Level V items of non-compliance and one deviation. Our response is outlined below.

Item 1:

Instrument Calibraticn and Control Element Tests Not Completed in a Timely Manner.

(Non-Compliance)

A.

Action Taken: This item has been reviewed by each senior Reactor Staff Member.

B.

Corrective Action to be Taken:

(1) More rigidly scheduled times for quarterly, semi-annual, and annual activities shall be established.

(2) The Maintenance Board shall be made larger and coded to better indicate when activities are due for completion.

C.

Full compliance shall be achieved by July 1,1985.

Item 2:

Requalification Examination Not Completed in a Timely Manner.

(Non-Compliance)

A.-

Action Taken: This item has been reviewed by each senior Reactor Staff Member.

Corrective Action to be Taken:

(1)

Revise the Requalification Program procedure for the OSU-NRC.

(2) Assign a single individual responsibility for the annual exam preparation.

(3) Require that the requalification exam and requalification operations fall within more rigidly scheduled times.

C.

Full compliance shall be achieved by July 1,1985.

Item 3:

Reactor Operations Committee Meetings Not Held at the Proper Frequency.

(Deviation)

A.

Action Taken: This item has been reviewed by each senior staff member.

B.

Corrective Action Taken:

(1) Meetings will be set to fall within more rigidly scheduled times.

(2) The date for the next meeting shall be established at each current meeting.

(3) A secretary shall be assigned to do minutes, agendas, and meeting reminders.

C.

Full compliance shall be achieved by July 1,1985.
