FINAL COMPLETION REVIEW REPORT FOR THE FALLS CITY, TEXAS
! URANIUM MILL TAILINGS REMEDIAL ACTION PROJECT SITE
Dear Mr. Rael:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has completed its review of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Final Completion Report and associated documents pertinent to the Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Project i inactive uranium mill tailings site at Falls City. Texas. These documents i include Completion Report pages transmitted on August 14 and September 13,
' 1996, as well as on March 17 and April 10, 1997.
The NRC staff's review is documented in the enclosed final Completion Review Report (Enclosure 1), which discusses the staff's evaluation of the completed remedial action against the previously approved plans and specifications.
Based on its review of the Com)letion Report, NRC staff concurs that DOE has performed remedial' action at tie Falls City :ite in accordance with the approved plans and specifications, with the exception of the selection and performance of a groundwater cleanup program. DOE, with NRC approval, has deferred this aspect of the remedial action to a separate groundwater ,
restoration program. I have, therefore, signed and enclosed the DOE Certification Summary (Enclosure 2) signifying concurrence in completion of the Falls City remedial action (other than groundwater cleanup).
